Keeping Safe in the Sun

Unlike our European friends in Spain, Italy and Greece, apart from a few warm days, England has not seen a hot spell for summer yet. Hopefully that could still change, and we could still get some hot weather in August.

As you have seen on the news, hot weather can pose significant health and safety risks for everyone, but particularly those who are outside for prolonged periods of time, such as gardeners, construction workers, and those running outdoor events or festivals.

However, heat stress at work can also come about from job related activities themselves, such as working in bakeries and some manufacturing processes.

Extremely high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, sunstroke, dehydration and general fatigue, which can in turn lead to accidents, injuries and even fatalities. So, it is crucial to implement health and safety strategies to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Click here for some important guidelines and precautions to consider, these are especially important for construction workers on site.
